Can I sleep in my motorhome? Rule for GB-WLS Tolerated
The light applies to car parks and community places. Official stopovers, campsites and farms are always allowed – staying overnight is what they are for.
Sleeping in a legally parked vehicle is not banned anywhere in the country, but camping without the landowner's consent is. Scotland's access right expressly does not cover motor vehicles (Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, s. 9(f)), and since 2022 residing on another's land in a vehicle is a criminal offence in England and Wales (Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, s. 60C).
