Figures and facts
- Around 110,000 motorhomes and about 35,000 caravans are registered in Switzerland (Federal Statistical Office, road vehicle stock 2025). The motorhome stock has grown by roughly 70 percent since 2019.
- Very few keepers have room for the vehicle at home. Covered winter spaces are fully booked in many regions by early November.
- Cities are tightening rules for motorhomes parked on public ground; Bern plans to stop issuing resident parking permits for motorhomes from 2027.
- A space in a barn earns the provider CHF 80 to 150 per month depending on the region, a hall space CHF 150 to 250 (guide values from Swiss listings, see prices).
The story behind it
Manuel Meyer spent a long time looking for a space for his own motorhome and realised: the supply exists, nobody can find it. Spaces sit on classified portals under “parking” with no mention of gate height or power, on a note at the farm, or nowhere at all. Caraplace records every space with vehicle dimensions, floor, power, security and access so that seekers only see what fits their vehicle.
Place me – the spot map
Since September 2026 Caraplace is more than the space at home: Place me shows more than 75,000 motorhome spots, campsites and service points in 43 countries on one map – from Switzerland to Norway, from Portugal to Turkey. Every place carries a traffic light saying whether sleeping in the vehicle is allowed, tolerated or forbidden; the rules come from laws and authorities in 42 countries and 15 cantons, each with its source and check date. Whoever is on site confirms a place with a check-in – the phone attests the position, which is never stored. Place me is free, works without an account and runs as a web app on any phone: caraplace.me.
Press release
Winter storage season: new Swiss marketplace brings campers and empty barns together
Since August, Caraplace.ch has been matching campers with storage and winter storage spaces for motorhomes and caravans free of charge, in four languages and without commission.
Around 110,000 motorhomes are registered in Switzerland, roughly 70 percent more than in 2019. Very few keepers have room for them at home. Covered winter spaces are fully booked in many regions by November, and cities such as Bern intend to stop issuing resident parking permits for motorhomes from 2027.
At the same time, barns, stables and halls stand empty in the countryside. “I spent a long time looking for a space myself and realised: the supply exists, nobody can find it,” says founder Manuel Meyer, entrepreneur and camper. “A farmer with a free barn earns 80 to 150 francs per space per month, with no investment.”
On Caraplace, farmers, garages, storage businesses and private individuals list their space in ten minutes with photos, location, gate height, maximum vehicle length, power and security. Seekers filter by region and vehicle dimensions and get in touch directly, without an account and free of charge. Each provider’s first listing is reviewed by hand; the exact address stays hidden on request.
