In Norway the right to roam allows parking alongside a public road in open country (utmark), provided it causes no significant damage or nuisance and no parking ban is signed or ordered (friluftsloven § 4 para. 2). According to Miljødirektoratet, the vehicle then stands on the roadside (på veiskulder), and camping with a car or motorhome in open terrain is not allowed. For staying, the right-to-roam rules apply: at least 150 metres from inhabited houses and cabins (§ 9 para. 2) and, as a rule, no more than two days (2 døgn) at a stretch without the owner's or user's consent (§ 9 para. 3). In the high mountains (høgfjellet) and in areas far from settlements, no consent is needed for a longer stay unless significant damage or nuisance is likely.
