Can I sleep in my motorhome? Rule for England Tolerated
The light applies to car parks and community places. Official aires, campsites and farms are allowed if they take motorhomes – staying overnight is what they are for.
In England, access rights cover neither the tent nor the vehicle, and on the Dartmoor Commons wild camping is allowed in a tent only (CROW Act 2000, Sch. 2; [2025] UKSC 20). No general law bans sleeping in a lawfully parked vehicle, though councils can prohibit it locally; residing on someone else's land with a vehicle without consent, even temporarily, and causing significant damage or disruption is an offence if you do not leave when asked (CJPOA 1994, s. 60C).
