Can I sleep in my motorhome? Rule for Scotland Tolerated
The light applies to car parks and community places. Official aires, campsites and farms are allowed if they take motorhomes – staying overnight is what they are for.
Scotland's access rights cover the tent, not the vehicle: they expressly exclude motorised vehicles (Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, s. 9(f)). No general law bans sleeping in a lawfully parked vehicle, but camping on private land without the owner's consent is an offence (Trespass (Scotland) Act 1865, s. 3), and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park requires a permit in designated zones from 1 March to 30 September.
